Fender is a blessing
to have at our ranch, when we got him; he had only very basic training. We
went to a working trainer as he was our first border collie. The trainer only took on
dogs with talent, and he said in a heartbeat "yes" to Fender.
Fender has proved to be an excellent dog, he can switch from
cattle, sheep, goats, hogs, it doesn't matter. He got down and dirty with a
sow that wouldn't load then helped gather up ducklings!
He loves to go with Kelsey to work, and help him any way he
can. From just riding in the tractor and watching the critter scurry at
harvest, to bringing the cattle in for banding or doctoring, he doesn't care
as long as he is working close with Kelsey. He will work either end,
but after a hard day, will crash and relax.
With herding he is
awesome, he has excellent "eye", he knows what they are thinking,
and moves to correct. We couldn't ask for a better border collie as our
first. Kelsey decided he might enjoy trailing some, so we have started with
him. He's only been to two, and shown he has the heart to compete, enjoys
it, but doesn't let crowds or arenas get to him.
Below are a few picture of him in action,
enjoying time off at the trial, or just
crashing after a hard day. Various pictures from different times of the year
working different animals or just having a good time.
